Daryl Hurst was Ann Arbor's Own Magician
Daryl Hurst was active in magic from an early age and was well-established as a local Ann Arbor celebrity even before graduating from the University of Michigan in 1975. Following up on his collegiate Honors project exploring magic and the media, Hurst launched a decades-long career as an entertainer, teacher and retailer based in his hometown. Following later careers as a Certified Balloon Artist and in business administration, Hurst has revisited his early magic days by authoring a memoir, creating a handbook for Hometown Magicians, and releasing in-depth guides to his classic routines and custom magic table.

Daryl’s original career and lifelong passion is the creation of wonder. His magic studio seeks to pass along his experience and practical knowledge based on his vision of Hometown Magic. The intent is to help students, hobbyists and semi-professionals who are stymied by the inherent secrecy of the conjuring fraternity to engage in a more open study of magic as a performing art. The studio focuses on storytelling, playfulness, artistry and education, the fundamentals of creating wonder that elevate magic as a performing art. This course of study revolves around practical entertainment and the persona of the Hometown Magician to help move the performer into more disciplined and consistent success in all situations.
